Specialism · cargo and CMR
Cargo and CMR: the carrier’s liability has a ceiling. The goods don’t.
CMR liability for hauliers and freight forwarders, cargo insurance for cargo owners, and the gap above the limit of 8.33 SDR per kilogram.
Under the CMR Convention a carrier is liable for loss of or damage to the goods up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight. For valuable cargo, that covers only part of the value. CMR insurance covers the carrier’s liability; cargo insurance covers the value of the goods themselves, whether or not the carrier is liable.
